10 Non-Profit Community Organizations Received Our Grants

At our June 28th meeting, we presented grants to the representatives of to ten community organizations: The Advisory Council of the Virginia Treatment Center for Children, Legal Information Network for Cancer, Girls on the Run, Chesterfield Food Bank, Remote Area Medical, Circle Center, Richmond Cycling Corps, St. Francis Home, Positive Vibe Foundation and Friends of Barnabas. A representative from the Remote Area Medical Clinic was not present because the clinic was in process.
Officers & Directors Installation

Reggie Weaver (right) hands a past-president’s plaque to Rob Westermann at the Bon Air Rotary’s Officer Installation Dinner on June 25. The new officers for 2019-2020 are President Reggie Weaver, Past President Rob Westermann, President-Elect Chris Gorman, Secretary Lee Harris and Treasurer Tommy Healy. Board members for the 2019-2020 year are Mickey Dowdy, Doug Peyronnet, Jeff Raihall, Ross Sumner and Cheryl Toler.
International students attend Bon Air Rotary picnic

Ten international students pursuing degrees at Virginia Commonwealth University attended the Bon Air Rotary’s annual picnic on May 23. Vadim Ostrovsky, a former peace scholar and an Alumni Member of District 7600, and Nichole Dorton, Director of Global Studies at VCU, accompanied the students.

Lee Harris hosted the annual picnic for members of the Rotary Club of Bon Air on May 23 at the Richmond Boat Club in Midlothian.
Doug Bullett helped VT Rotary wtih fundraiser

While he was on vacation in Vermont, Doug Bullett helped the Barre VT Rotary Club with its Saturday morning breakfast fundraiser for the local library. Doug assisted with set-up at 6:30 am. He was there until 10 am, working on the food line when they served the last of approximately 1200 meals.
Bon Air Rotary awards two scholarships

The Bon Air Rotary awarded scholarships to two high school seniors at the club’s regular meeting on May 17. The two students were Shonell Bobb from Huguenot High School, shown here with her mother Sharon Yearwood, and Andriana Taratsas of Monacan High School, shown with her parents Jennifer and George Taratsas. Shonell is planning to attend James Madison University and major in biology. Andriana will go to Carleton College in Northfield MN to major in international relations and English.
Spring Cleaning in Bon Air

Each spring and fall, members of the Bon Air Rotary pick up trash from Old Bon Air Road. On Saturday, April 20, the Bon Air team headed out with (left to right) Cheryl Toler, Lou Markwith, Reggie Weaver, Dennis McDermott, Pam Weaver, Jeff Raihall, Chris Gorman and Rob Westerman.
Preparing Food for the Homeless

For their meeting on March 12, members of the Bon Air Rotary filled 150 bags with non-perishable items of food for the homeless.
Making Brunswick Stew

President Rob Westermann and his stew crew cooked 300 quarts of Brunswick stew this fall. About 15 members of the club participated in cooking and picking the meat, cooking the stew, packaging, and freezing the stew, then selling and delivery of the product. The stew is one of our major fund-raisers.
Cleaning Clutter on Old Bon Air Road

Twice a year members of the Bon Air Rotary clean up litter on the Old Bon Air Road.
Rural Area Medical Clinic in Southwest Virginia

The Rural Area Medical Clinic brings medical and dental services to the underserved population in southwest Virginia. Volunteers also bring clothing and books.
Helping the Handicapped

Members of the Bon Air Rotary helped assemble wheelchair ramps for project: Homes. The ramps will be installed at the homes of low-income handicapped individuals. Members of the club team are Thomas Healy, Douglas Bullett, Louis Markwith and Robert Westermann.

Rotary Women Meet

The women of Richmond-area Rotary clubs held a get together March 7, National Women’s Day, at the Blue Bee Cidery in historic Scott's Addition. River City Rotary hosted the event.
